Free
Let's Encrypt
Let's Encrypt says it is a free, automated, open certificate authority. You get certificates through the ACME protocol, not a checkout page.
What is actually free
Free automated TLS certificates via the ACME protocol.
Pricing model: Free. An account is part of using it. We are not claiming anything about a credit card unless the quote says so.
- You need ACME client software
- This is certificates, not a password vault

Who it is for
A site that needs HTTPS and can run an ACME client.
Upsides
- Free is the first adjective.
- A nonprofit runs it, and the page says so.
Limits
- It will not store passwords.
- Someone still has to install and renew the certificate.
Alternatives in this directory
- Cloudflare — A $0 plan for DNS, CDN, SSL, and basic firewall. Not a password manager.
- Proton Pass — A $0 password manager with unlimited logins and no card.
